it's been forever since an update, i know. 2006 is almost over and it will soon be time to start fresh all over again. i really do get that feeling every year, that feeling that i can make the new year a better one, a more productive one.

i got a sexy new camera for christmas which i hope will help me on my path to doing my own thing along with my painting and greeting cards that people seem to be loving (and saying i should sell). this year i have to drop my fears and intimidations and start taking chances. i have to get out of my current job that's for sure, the stress is not good and is taking it's toll on my body (i was sick over christmas and have been losing weight from not eating), my marriage, my mental health. i have this entire week off until Jan.2nd and it feels so good to be relaxing, doing things at a normal pace, i'm afraid to go back.

so anyway, i'm playing with name ideas for a new website which will feature my art and photography and hopefully also my journal (i still like having a journal even though i haven't updated). i'm thinking of just using my name...amandadevuono.ca

time to re-arrange the spare bedroom, i've got the itch to re-arrange rooms and paint them.

happy anniversary damian!

6 years ago to the day. we had a lot of people concerned that we chose to get married on a friday the 13th but we didn't care. we really wanted to get married on halloween but it was a wednesday that year, so, we took halloween backwards instead.

a cozy night tonight on this freezing day. a fire in our fireplace, a yummy dinner of i don't know what yet, and a decadent bottle of champagne. maybe a chocolate fondue for dessert, yeah, i think that's mandatory!

in which the iceman cometh

from across my office i heard "it's snowing!" sure enough when i looked out the window december caught my eye in a blizzard.

it's done now but it was a mighty gust of flurry action. now the sun is shining as if nothing had happened, like the cover up of a horrible mistake. mark it, first official snow fall (even though it didn't stick to the ground), October 11th....gotta love canada!

in which time escapes me

well we're into our new place and the film fest is long over. i was film logged after all those movies, for a couple days everything i did felt like a movie. i kind of liked it.

i've been so busy lately with the move and my new position at work starting. i'm in my last few days of training and i'm not too sure about it. my hours are 9-5 yet i can never seem to get out of there until AFTER 5:00. this is not good as damian & i come in together therefore he is waiting for me after work too. not to mention the office politics i'm immersed in now that i'm inside the doors rather than sitting alone at reception. i'm really not sure if i can handle it, i really hate office environments.

i'm loving our new house though, the commute i could do without but i knew it would be a part of my life when we bought this place. the leaves are gorgeous and last night was such a clear night i was re-introduced to stars. i was also re-introduced to spiders. not many spiders happen in condos but on my first day here, as i occupied the washroom "powdering my nose", a spider loomed near watching my every move (perv). poe also ate a giant, fat, juicy jeff goldblum type creature that had taken up residence in one of our windows. the loud thump thum buzz ceased suddenly, i looked over at poe who sat still on the ledge, mouth clenched tight. the tiny evidence of a kill hung out of her mouth in the form of a wing.

still haven't got my studio in order but i think i may have managed to talk damian into stealing one of the bigger bedrooms to house my arts (huzzah!). my reasoning...why let the bigger of the 2 leftover bedrooms just sit there waiting to be used, begging for company in the form of a sleepover guest? why waste all of that space? so the little one (which is going to look super cozy when i'm done with it) is waiting for you to curl up in it.

time for bed, the commute happens again tomorrow morning and i'm not used to having to get up at 5:30 (le sigh). maybe a chapter of my book to send me off.

i forgot to mention in the last post, ("film fest day 2") that damian & i were nearly run down while crossing the street on friday night (saturday morning) by dustin hoffman, close call dusty.

saw a FANTASTIC film on day 3 (saturday), a Norwegian film 'the bothersome man. so far my favourite film of the fest, the reason i do the festival is for films like this. films that make me curious, make me think, make me feel. i felt a strong connection to this one, to the themes. that's all i'll say though because i wouldn't do it justice describing what i thought it meant.

that was the only film i had on saturday so damian & i headed over to the vegetarian food fair where i ate a lot of mini tofu shish kabobs.

the unexciting end.

film fest day 2: in which we finally travel to (celluloid) kazakhstan

after 1/2 a day at work i was free, free to go to the box office to see what to do about the tickets we still had for the botched screening of Borat the night before. turns out we just used the same ticket, nothing too difficult there really.

i decided to slowly stroll home, stop at le commensal for lunch where the woman at the cash register was a bitch to me when i said "i think i have 21 cents too.....nope, sorry, i don't". she gave me "well anything ma'am, a quarter whatever i don't want to hold up the line". what the hell is that attitude? i'm pissed that there never seems to be time, we're always being rushed through everything, rushed to start, rushed to finish. there was ONE person behind me. she handed me my change, never once even taking a moment of precious fleeting time to look at me, "thank you, next" i looked at her and said "gee, thanks" as i tried to gather my wallet and change in one hand while trying to pick up my tray in the other, don't want to hold up the line.

anyways, then i felt my asthma kicking in (for teh past 3 weeks i've had this constant cough that makes me feel like i could die from it since i'm not getting enough air, fun times). i managed to get to the eaton center when i realized, this isn't good. called up my doctor to see if i could get an appointment. he was booked solid but i got one with a nurse. long story short the nurse saw me and said "you WILL be seeing a doctor", my doc saw me and said it was severe, that next time this happens (which it hopefully won't) he doesn't care what time of day it is....get to the hospital. okay, so i had an asthma attack and didn't really take it seriously, good to know. it's like breathing through the tiny straw of a drinking box. i walked out of there with 3 puffers and steroid pills that i have to take for 7 days. i'm on steroids. i can kick your ass.

anyways, we headed over to the Elgin theater to wait in line for Borat (again) and the skies opened up on us. hundreds of people making love to the wall to try and stay dry. once we got in the theater it was freezing, we're talking air conditioning to the max and we were all wet to boot. the film was hilarious, the seats were comfy (which is generally not the case at the elgin but maybe that's just when you're seeing a film that sucks), the air conditioning seemed to take a powder, and i could breath. it was "vray niceh!"

film fest day 1: in which Michael Moore attempts salvation

the tiny Borat
Originally uploaded by sequin faery.

i couldn't stop laughing, no one could, for a solid 10-15 minutes of Borat entertainment. then the projector broke. this is never good but it's especially never good when it happens to a midnight madness crowd (they tend to be more on the vocal side). the house lights came up and hundreds of faces plastered with looks of death turned toward the projection booth, a series of boos were uttered and then michael moore appeared behind us. it was a bit surreal, why was michael moore headiing to the projection booth. let me just say for the record i had some booze on board from a girls night at work before i came to the theater so things were extra odd.

there were many cheers for michael when he exited the booth and walked past us so i yelled "but did he fix it?" a few fellow audience members agreed with my questioning as they turned to look at me laughing with a "so true". he didn't fix it.

before we knew it michael was on stage with Borat director Larry Charles. why michael moore was on stage instead of Borat was a mystery but for the next 45 minutes or so it was a free for all Q&A, any topic was open to discussion. finally they brought Borat back when they realized the projector situation was not going to be fixed any time soon. so we started with what's normally saved to the end, the Q&A. all and all it was pretty entertaining but we never did get to see the film. it has been rescheduled for tonight at midnight at teh Elgin theater...much closer to home for us!

time for a nap so i can make it to midnight, didn't get much sleep last night and was up early for work this morning but now, now i'm on vacation!!!
